Opposition supporters, factory workers cleared from protest site

Police in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh cleared protesters from a park Saturday- a day after four people were killed when police opened fire on a group of protesters demanding higher wages.
The striking workers have joined forces with opposition political members who are calling for incumbent Prime Minister Hun Sen to step down.
The leader of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party Sam Rainsy has promised some 350,000 garment factory workers to double their salary if his party wins the next election although so far the government has refused to call one.
Earlier Saturday Rainsy called for an end to the violence.

"So we have made an appeal to both sides, workers and armed forces, to withdraw, to stop using an forms of violence. So that we can find a peaceful solution. A technical solution through negotiations with government companies, with buyers."
