Porsche Unveils 919 Hybrid for Le Mans

Porsche hasn’t participated in the Le Mans race for 16 years, but in 2014, the company plans on making a huge comeback. The 919 Hybrid called the LMP1 racecar utilizes a pair of electric motors.
Porsche is known to design vehicles associated with luxury and speed. The automaker recently unveiled a four-cylinder hybrid car that will appear at the next 24 Hours Le Mans race.
Porsche hasn’t participated in the race for 16 years, but in 2014, the company plans on making a huge comeback. The new vehicle, called the 919 Hybrid, utilizes a pair of electric motors and will race in the top Le Mans Prototype 1 Class, known as LMP1.
A Porche spokesperson chronicled the commitment to reducing emissions stating “To continue leading the way in the future and to merge sportiness with sustainability, we need to keep learning. Maximum efficiency in energy consumption is the directive of the new WEC regulations for the works-entered class 1 prototypes — and that is also the direction for the automobile future.”
Porsche's newest hybrid debuted at the Night of Champions in Weissach. While the complete list of specs on the vehicle has yet to be released, the company did announced the lineup of drivers scheduled to take part in the race.
Mark Webber, Romain Dumas, Timo Bernhard, Neel Jani, Brendon Hartley and Marc Lieb will drive the 919 hybrid at Le Mans.
