A small child in Beijing, China is now recovering after surgery. The 16-month-old girl named Ranran underwent the procedure on November 25th when doctors realized she had a dandelion growing in her ear.

According to the parents, approximately four months ago, something that resembled a seed fell into Ranran’s ear. They left it alone and didn’t give it a second thought until the toddler began itching in that same ear.

Once the mom and dad realized something might be wrong, they took her to a nose and throat doctor at the Capital Institute of Pediatrics. According to the surgeon who worked on the child, the seed sprouted and the roots of the plant attached to the ear canal.

That particular area of the human body is warm and humid, meaning the conditions are actually ideal for plant growth. The chief physician at the hospital said “The dandelion had totally grown into Ranran's ear and filled her ear canal wall. Even the slightest bit of pressure put her at risk for internal bleeding so it had to come out."

The surgery took a total of 10 minutes, but according to involved physicians, the dandelion was extremely difficult to remove.
