Dozens hurt in Hong Kong ferry accident

More than 80 people have been injured in a high-speed ferry accident in Hong Kong.
Up to six of them were seriously hurt when the vessel hit an “unidentified object” early on Friday morning.
A loud bang was reportedly heard after which the ferry was thrown upwards. A total of 105 passengers and 10 crew are said to have been onboard the vessel, which was heading for Macau.
The ferry operator has been quoted as saying the high number of casualties could be explained by people failing to wear seat-belts.
It is the second serious accident in just over a year in waters off Hong Kong. In October 2012, 39 people died when a pleasure boat and a high-speed ferry collided. A report later criticised “systemic failings” in safety standards.
