Charles, Camila visit school in slums

Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla visited a school on Friday (November 08) in one of New Delhi's slums to take a first hand look at the difference the community schools are making to the lives of thousands of children from deprived backgrounds in India.

The royal couple strolled onto the campus of this unique school, which is one among the chains of such institutions that run under the name of 'Katha Lab Schools' in the slums.

These schools reach out to almost 8,000 children from poor families through an intense curriculum development programme. Based on the community-based education model, these schools are believed to have saved the future of poor kids, who often quit schools for supporting their families.

While Prince Charles inspected the computer lab in the school, Duchess Camilla interacted with the girls in a stitching class.

The royals will also meet Indian President, Pranab Mukherjee, before they head towards other cities.
