When the American University of London awarded an MBA to Pete Smith based on his previous experience and the receipt of his sizeable check, they probably didn’t realize Pete is a dog.
When the American University of London awarded an MBA to Pete Smith based on his previous experience and the receipt of his sizeable check, they probably didn’t realize Pete is a dog.
Species aside, the university also didn’t seem to care that all of his credentials had been fabricated, as they required no proof of them.
They also didn’t ask that any of the typical degree-earning stuff like coursework, exams, and papers be completed.
Pete was part of an investigative report launched by the BBC program Newsnight.
When officials at the university were questioned about the incident, they said that all graduates of the online program have legitimately earned their degrees.
The graduates, many of whom hold senior level positions at various companies, also said they underwent rigorous academic programs.
Some have been skeptical of the validity of their degrees and programs for years, though. Degrees from the Carribbean–based business are outlawed in the procurement of jobs in several US states.
It’s not just MBAs that employers need to be on the lookout for.
Also offered are degrees ranging from Bachelors to PhDs in law, education, nutrition, and information technology.
