When it comes to fashion trends, the man purse, also known as a man bag or murse, looks like it’s here to stay, and the market for this kind of item is growing.

According to statements from Burberry, Richemont and other luxury brand companies, shoppers in China are slowing down their spending on luxury items.

As a response to this change, some brands have decided to open men only store locations to tap into the men’s fashion market, which is reportedly less saturated than women’s fashion.

Projections from market research company Euromonitor International say that the market for man purses is expected to reach 9 billion dollars during 2013.

Fflur Roberts of Euromonitor is quoted as saying “Years ago, your average man wouldn’t be caught dead walking down the street with a Mulberry bag. It’s becoming a more accepted trend.”

One report says that during the past five years, sales for man purses have risen at almost twice the rate of overall luxury brand sales.

In Asia, where men are reportedly more into luxury brand shopping, the market for murses has doubled since 2008, while man purse sales in the Middle East have gone up by two thirds during the same time period.
