Beaver & Krause – Walkin’/Walkin” By The River – Gandharva

They sound like songs from the Late Nineteenth/Early Twentieth Centuries, especially “Walkin’ By The River”, but they are not. The words and music were written by Paul Beaver and Bernie Krause in 1970-71. They are tracks 4 and 5 of the LP “Gandharva”, but as used in this video they are tracks 13 and 14 of the Warner Brothers CD, “Gandharva-In a Wild Sanctuary”. There is a significant difference between the LP and the CD; the LP has a mere nanno-second break between the tracks of the two songs and the tracks end when the music ends. But the CD is different; the tracks begin and end with silent leads and the break is nearly three seconds. To replicate the LP, I overlapped the two CD tracks by about 2.29 seconds.

Their friends and colleagues are among the greatest of pop, rock, classical, and jazz musicians and performers. Rather than list them here, the viewer is urged to view the relevant Wikipedia articles.

If one wishes to acquire the album, I offer the following recommendations, bearing in mind that all formats are out of print:

1. The analog LP is the best choice, provided that one has a decent turntable and a quality stereo cartridge. The sound is vastly superior to the CD. It can be found at eBay, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other used book and record vendors. Although the LP was recorded in Quadraphonic, it was never released in that format, but that is another long story.

2.. The Warner Brothers CD, “Gandharva-In a Wild Sanctuary”, is the second choice. In addition to the above listed vendors, the entire album can be found on YouTube.

3. The Collector’s Choice, budget priced CD of “Gandharva” is not recommended. The sound is relatively poor and the Grace Cathedral sound decay is essentially lost.
