Man With Negative Balance in Checking Account Robs Bank

43-year-old James Patrick Andrews walked into a Bank of America branch in St. Petersburg, Florida. After using his ATM card in the bank, he saw there was no money in his account so he robbed the business.

Andrews then passed a note to the same teller, demanding $1,000.

The suspect immediately left the building and hopped into a car driven by another male. Police officers found the car a short time later. It was being driven by a woman, whose three children were also in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
The female claimed her boyfriend had used her car to give Andrews a ride to the bank. Police tracked Andrews and arrested him.
He was charged with strong-arm robbery and possession of crack cocaine. Andrews confessed to robbing the bank, citing a drug debt as an excuse. He confirmed the man who drove the car had no knowledge of the robbery.
