After recording some of Eliot's "East Coker" before a green screen, I manipulated the footage using code in VB 5 so that I "fragmented" into semi-random pixels in proportion to the loudness of my utterances. This 2nd-gen footage was then changed from an AVI to a MOV file, and transferred to my Mac and opened in Final Cut Express. I juxtaposed the original film on top of the fragmented footage so that when I recited (or even breathed loudly) the fragments would appear to emanate from my body (rather than my body just fragmenting into unrecognizable bits as it did in the second generation film). With FCE I enhanced the original fragments, changing their colors, & turning them into crystal-forms (rather than just vibrating pixels) at some points, or into expanding/contracting circles in other parts of the film.

The end result was not as hi-quality as I would have liked. This is due to poor lighting and a rudimentary green screen. Still, I do like it, and I hope you do too.
