Answering a call concerning sounds of a woman screams coming from some woods in south Brisbane, Australia, police searched tirelessly and finally found the source – a fox.

The call came in at about 9 in the evening and 14 officers were dispatched to explore the dense bush land from which the cries were coming.

After their efforts proved fruitless, a helicopter equipped with thermal detection apparatus was called to assist.

Meanwhile, area residents went where many go in times of fear and confusion - Facebook.

One wrote, "…Something happening down the road, lots of police, loud helicopter right over our house and blocked streets, very mysterious."

Upon realizing the sounds were coming from an animal, the search was ended.

An area sergeant said the hunt may have been wasteful; however, it would have been far worse had there actually been someone in danger or in pain and police hadn’t put forth the huge effort.

Also, it’s reassuring to know that the human instinct is to help those in peril.
