A wildfire blazes across southern California

STORY: A wildfire east of Los Angeles triggered the evacuation of about 100 homes Wednesday, blazing into the night and early Thursday morning.

The 19,000 acre, or 7,700 hectare-large wildfire charred parts of the San Bernardino National forest, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Three-thousand firefighters have been tasked with containing the flames, and water air-drops are being conducted along with some 17 helicopters and 10 air tankers.

No official estimate has been released yet as to the number of people who could be at risk in the nearby desert, resort communities, like Palm Springs.

No fatalities have yet been reported.
