Professor David Brotherton reveals how his work led him to the Dominican Republic to interview men that legally lived in the United States for 30 years, only to be detained and deported for minor crimes. These men were forced to return to a place where they had no ties, were separated from their families, and subjected to the shame and ridicule of being a “deportee.”
