Airport Property Rented Out for Bee Hives

The Lambert-St. Louis International Airport will soon be home to hives of bees. The Airport Authority signed off on a three year lease, which means Robins Apiaries will be able to keep bee hives on a piece of property near a landing strip.
The Lambert-St. Louis International Airport will soon be home to hives of bees. The Airport Authority signed a three year lease, which means Robins Apiaries will be able to keep bee hives on a piece of land encompassing about 400-square-feet .
The property is located north of the third parallel runway, which has served as a landing strip since 2006, but rarely gets used. The airport will only charge $75 per year as a form of rent.
Jim Robins, who is a beekeeper claimed the location is perfect for his bees due to the abundance of white dutch clover near the runway.
Robins stated “I know the airport’s good because I’ve had bees next to the airport for a long time." He also pointed out that the bees will not bother passengers or serve as a threat to aviation in an attempt to dissolve any remaining fears over the decision.
Lambert will reportedly be the third major airport in the United States to house bee hives. Seattle-Tacoma International and Chicago's O'Hare airport both already host bees.
