Why Is China Betting On The Small South American Country Of Suriname?

Recently, China has taken a strong interest in the quiet South American nation of Suriname. And for good reason: the small country sandwiched between Guyana and French Guiana is rich in natural resources like rain forests, arable land and valuable deposits of bauxite. Since 2010 when the Netherlands ceased the aid program to their former colony China has become the top financial provider to Suriname.
