The bulldozers will soon go quiet in a suburban Detroit field...where the Federal Bureau of Investigation has spent days searching for the remains of Jimmy Hoffa.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ROBERT FOLEY, FBI SPECIAL AGENT IN CHARGE SAYING:

"I'm here this morning to let you know that after a diligent search pursuant to our responsibilities under the search warrant, we did not uncover any evidence relevant to the investigation on James Hoffa."

The former Teamsters boss disappeared in 1975. Last seen alive at a restaurant about 20 miles from the field, Hoffa is thought to have been murdered by mobsters bent on keeping him from regaining control of the Teamsters.

Focusing on a concrete slab on the property, the FBI began digging after a tip from 85-year-old reputed mobster Anthony Zerilli.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ANTHONY ZERILLI, FBI TIPSTER, SAYING:

"I'd like to see him exhumed and be buried properly. Like he deserves to be."
