Middle-Class Prostitution in Iran

Middle -class prostitution is on the rise in Iran.

In Iran, young women from middle class backgrounds with college education have resorted to finding work as prostitutes to make ends meet.

Economic hardships have pushed independent educated women in the capital city of Tehran to work as part time prostitutes.

Although prostitution is illegal in Iran and under Islamic law, there are reportedly many active prostitutes working the streets of North Tehran.

One woman who agreed to be interviewed is a 23 year old computer engineering graduate, who makes more money having sex with her customers than at the technical firm she worked at before losing her job.

A difficult economic environment can have all sorts of obvious as well as not-so-obvious impact on a country and its citizens.
Last year, Iranian authorities asked for a television ban on chickens. Due to a tough economy, prices were raised and there were high inflation rates on all sorts of products.
Law enforcement officers warned that movie scenes showing chicken meals could prompt impoverished classes to attack the privileged, who could still afford it.
