The Independent Television Network – The pioneer television station in Sri Lanka. Started operations on 13th April 1979 with very modest beginnings, On 5th of June 1979 ITN was converted to a government owned business undertaking, under a Competent Authority. In 1992 ITN was converted to a public company under State jurisdiction.
In the year of 2009, 25th of June Independence Television Network’s Tamil Television Channel has started its Tamil Channel called “Vasantham TV”. From the time of beginning of the channel it has the coverage only to the Western Province. Afterwards it has expanded its coverage towards Jaffna and also has expanded the coverage through the South Asian tallest Kokkavil Transmitting Tower and it covered whole Northern Province. As the next step through the Madulseemai Transmitting Tower it has expanded its broadcasting to Uva Province, Badulla District and Eastern Province.
