The New European
@theneweuropean
Conceived in the immediate aftermath of the Brexit vote, and taking its inspiration from the great tradition of political pamphleteering, The New European began life as a single-issue newspaper but has since successfully broadened it’s reach to encompass the arts, popular culture, science and literature - besides tackling a host of geo-political issues beyond Brexit - from the rise of Trump to the bombardment of Aleppo.
The newspaper, and now its first-class new website, prides itself on the authority of its writers, and its ability to use wit as a weapon in making its argument. The New European is not a po-faced political paper.
Writers such as Booker-prize winner Howard Jacobson, Bonnie Greer, Miranda Sawyer, Jonathan Freedland, Victor Lewis-Smith, Louise Chunn, Alastair Campbell, Mitch Benn and Hardeep Singh-Kholi have set the agenda regularly from within the pages of The New European.
Our cultural coverage, celebrated each week in our Eurofile section, is as eclectic as it is brilliant; from Bowie to Vermeer, from Bauhaus to the Eurovision song content - our interest ranges across the spectrum of the humanities.
Politicians including Sir Keir Starmer, Tim Farron, Tony Blair, Peter Mandelson, Anna Soubry and Chukka Umuna consider The New European the fresh new voice of the pro-EU movement.
Our audience, a hard-to-reach ABC1 readership of affluent and passionately engaged readers, take inordinate pride in our paper. We know this from both the feedback we get in our mailbag, the sense of loyalty and attachment obvious across social media, and also our rapidly rising army of subscribers - rising at the rate of around 150 new subscribers a week...growth the editor of The New Statesman described as “to die for”.
