00:00Hello, let's get started on the lesson.
00:06Community helpers have important roles in the community.
00:11A role is a special job or responsibility.
00:15Each community helper has a different role.
00:19For example, police officers keep communities safe.
00:24Doctors help people stay healthy.
00:29When you need something, it is important to know which community helper to go to.
00:35Now let's play Community Helper Trivia.
00:40Look at each situation and think about who could help you in your community.
00:46Question number one.
00:49What if you noticed that your hair was getting too long?
00:53Which community helper would you visit?
00:57A hairdresser, a tailor, a butcher, or a lumberjack?
01:15Correct!
01:17You would go to see a hairdresser.
01:21A hairdresser's job is to cut hair.
01:24That is his or her role in the community.
01:29Let's try another one.
01:32Question two.
01:35Suppose that your teacher asks you to research animals.
01:40Research means to find information about something.
01:44You can use books and computers for research.
01:48Who could help you do this?
01:51A mechanic, a librarian, a grocery store clerk, or a detective?
02:06You've got it!
02:07A librarian can help you find books and other resources for a research assignment.
02:15Question three.
02:19Think about how you travel in your community.
02:22Transportation is when people use vehicles, such as buses and cars, to move from one place
02:29to another.
02:33What if you wanted to go somewhere in your community, like the grocery store?
02:39Who can help you get there?
02:43A pilot, a boat captain, a bus driver, or a race car driver?
03:01Excellent choice!
03:03A bus driver helps people travel around the community.

04:07Hello everyone, I'm Dr. Jones.
04:20My job is to help people stay healthy.
04:24Let's find out what happens when you go to the doctor.
04:28First, the doctor will talk to you and your parents to find out how you feel.
04:35Then the doctor will give you a checkup.
04:39A checkup is when the doctor makes sure that your body is healthy.
04:45You can get checkups even if you are not sick.
04:49The doctor will check to make sure that you are growing well and taking care of your body.
04:55They may use special tools like a stethoscope.
04:59A stethoscope is used to check your heart and lungs.
05:14The doctor might also check your mouth, ears, nose, and other parts of your body.
05:23If you are sick or hurt, the doctor may give you something to help you feel better.
05:30This could be medicine or a bandage.
05:36When your visit is done, the doctor might give you a special prize.
05:43A nurse is someone who helps the doctor.
05:48This is my friend, Nurse Nancy.
05:51Hello boys and girls.
05:53Would you like to know what nurses do?
05:57The nurse will ask you questions and write your answers down for the doctor.
06:04Nurses may even help the doctor check you.
06:09Like doctors, we also want to keep you well and healthy.
06:16There are many different types of doctors.
06:28This is an optometrist or an eye doctor.
06:32The eye doctor checks your eyes to make sure that you can see well.
06:40Sometimes the eye doctor may tell you that you need glasses.
06:45It seems he has just told it to Billy.
06:50Hello Billy.
06:52How was your visit at the optometrist's office?
06:55It was amazing.
06:57The doctor used a cool machine to check my eyes.
07:01It looked like a robot.
07:05And I got new green glasses.
07:08I can see much better now.
07:11Wow, that sure sounds fun.
07:15Uh-oh.
07:20It looks like Buddy's not feeling too well.
07:26Maybe he needs new glasses.
07:32No, you'll have to take him to a veterinarian.
07:37A veterinarian is a doctor that helps sick animals.
07:43If your pet is not feeling well, you can take it to the vet.
07:48I see.

14:42Hello boys and girls! Today we will talk about construction workers.
15:06People have always needed homes to shelter them from the cold in the winter, heat in
15:12the summer, and rain in the fall. People also needed roads, towers, parks, theatres,
15:22and other buildings. All of these appeared thanks to the hard work of construction workers.
15:31A lot of people work at a construction site. It would be impossible for one person to build
15:38a large building or fix a road alone. Since the beginning of time, people have used special
15:47tools to build and fix things in the community. Today, construction workers have many tools
15:55and machines to do their jobs. This construction worker is using a drill.
16:05A drill is a tool that makes holes. Construction workers also use a hammer and nails to put
16:13things together. This wall is being built with bricks and cement. The construction worker
16:23is using a trowel to smooth things out. Sometimes construction workers use machines to do big
16:32jobs. A jackhammer is strong enough to break rocks and hard cement. For bigger digging
16:42jobs, construction workers use an excavator. An excavator has a special tool that looks
16:51like a shovel with huge claws. Machines like bulldozers are used for pushing large amounts
17:01of soil and sand. They help flatten the ground. And cranes help to lift and move heavy objects.
17:14So what do construction workers do with all these tools and machines? They build and fix
17:22homes, bridges, roads, and buildings where people work and relax. Do you want to be a
17:38construction worker when you grow up? What would you build? A house? A hotel? Or an airport?
