Transcript
00:00 The Czech Republic will open more opportunities to Filipinos
00:05 after doubling the quota for the deployment of OFWs there.
00:10 And to make sure they can have a joint communique,
00:14 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:18 Kenneth Pacientes was at the center of the news.
00:21 More Filipinos will be given the opportunity
00:28 to work in Prague, Czech Republic,
00:30 after doubling the quota for the deployment of OFWs there.
00:35 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:39 acknowledged this after his bilateral meeting
00:41 with Czech Republic President Peter Pavel.
00:44 Next, a joint communique was held between the Philippines
00:48 and the Czech Republic, which was attended by two presidents.
00:51 The communique is a mechanism that will strengthen
00:54 the cooperation of the two countries for the migration of Filipino workers,
00:59 as well as protecting their rights and welfare.
01:02 I took note of the Czech Republic's announcement
01:05 that you have increased the quota for Filipino workers
01:09 from 5,500 to almost double that from January 2024
01:15 to 10,300 per year starting in May of 2024.
01:21 President Pavel and I witnessed the signing
01:23 of the joint communique to establish a labor consultations mechanism
01:28 between the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers
01:31 and the Czech Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
01:35 According to Philippine Ambassador to Czech Republic Eduardo Menez,
01:38 the visit of the President to the so-called country is being postponed,
01:42 especially since the demand of OFWs here is increasing.
01:45 The Czech government and the employers in the Czech Republic
01:49 have seen how well the Filipino workers have adapted
01:54 and how hard they work, and productivity of the companies
02:00 that have hired them has also gone up.
02:02 But aside from the people-to-people relation,
02:04 the bilateral cooperation and multilateral partnership
02:08 of the Philippines and the Czech Republic is even stronger
02:10 because of the visit of the President.
02:12 In my talks with the President,
02:13 we explored various opportunities for future partnerships
02:19 in trade and investment, agriculture, green economy,
02:23 and renewable energy, space and aerospace, education, tourism,
02:29 defense and cyber security, and of course, labor amongst others.
02:35 The Executive Board also appreciated the country's good economic performance
02:40 as a reason for making the Philippines a destination for Czech investments
02:45 in various sectors including ITBPM, electronics, manufacturing, agriculture, and others.
02:51 I am optimistic that we will be able to attract more Czech traders and investors
02:57 to do business with the Philippines
02:59 as a result of this increased engagement between our respective business sectors.
03:05 We look forward to the convening of the second meeting
03:08 of the Philippines-Czech Republic Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation in Manila
03:13 that will occur later this year.
03:16 The President had a working lunch with Senate President Milos Vestrachel
03:21 where they discussed trade and investment, labor cooperation, agriculture,
03:26 and the issue of climate change.
03:28 The two also discussed their regional and international issues.
03:32 The President also met with the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament Speaker
03:36 Marqueta Pecarova-Adamova
03:38 and the President expressed his desire to establish
03:41 the Philippines-Czech Republic Parliamentary Friendship Group
03:44 in the House of Representatives
03:46 to strengthen the inter-parliamentary cooperation of the two countries.
03:51 The President also met with Prime Minister Peter Fiala
03:55 where the President assured his assistance to the Czech Republic
03:58 in following the rules-based international order
04:01 and also in expanding the relationship between the country and the Czech Republic
04:04 especially in strengthening the security of the country.
04:08 The country also had a chance to visit the Czech Republic
04:11 where the agricultural officials from the Czech Republic
04:14 were able to visit the country because of the President's state visit.
04:17 This is a way for the country to establish cooperation
04:20 and support the food security initiatives of the Philippines.
04:24 From Prague, Czech Republic, Kenneth Paciente
