Atlantis — Atlantis 1972 (Germany, Krautrock/Blues Rock)

  • last year
Atlantis appeared on the wreckage of Frumpy and was created by its ex-members: vocalist Inga Rumpf, keyboardist Jean-Jacques Kravetz and bassist Karl-Heitz Schott in the summer of 1972. The band was supplemented by guitarist Frank Dietz and Curt Cress, former drummer of "Emergency". Starting with performances in their homeland, Atlantis soon signed a contract with Island Records and went to London. Already at that time, American music publications put the group on a par with the Doobie Brothers and noted the soulful female blues vocals of Inga Rumpf (she was called the German Janis Joplin). Immediately after recording their debut album, the band went on tour in England with Procol Harum, Traffic and Vinegar Joe. Throughout the band's existence, Rumpf and Kravetz have been the main driving force. From the memoirs of Kravets: “Inga meant to us what Rod Stewart meant to Faces. She created our image with her voice.” Inga Rumpf recalled: "When writing songs, I was most influenced by blues and jazz, which contributed to my musical maturation." Melody Maker magazine called this band "the most English of all German bands".
