Jean Françaix (1912-1997) : Trois Pièces pour Orchestre à Plectre [world premiere]
Premiered by Ensemble Gabriele Leone at Argenteuil (France) on October 26th, 1996
Unfortunately, only the second and the third pieces are available on video.
Musicians : Eric Depret, Elisabeth Fournier, Colette Walczak & Didier Le Roux, mandolins - Jaona Girard, mandola - Didier Le Roux & Jean-Paul Bazin, mandocelli - Mabel Ruiz & Gilles Oton, guitars
These pieces were intended for the wedding of Rainier Grimaldi with Grace Kelly in 1950, but never played. The manuscript was discovered and edited by Didier Le Roux.
It is -in our knowledge- the first french contemporary music for mandolin orchestra, at the time of the mandolin revival in Germany.
