Global Village Cambodia

Global Village Cambodia is a non-profit organization focusing on using art as a transformative agent in post-conflict areas and on creating a cultural meeting between East and West. A major goal is to create a model for introducing arts education that will empower people and further their ability to communicate internationally beyond the limits of conventional language.

Samlout High School in rural Cambodia, home to a thousand students in grades seven to twelve, is at the center of a pilot project to introduce music education at an already existing school in a war-torn region. The project is based on an alliance with the school's teachers and on working with indigenous musicians. The aspiration is to replicate the project at other locations in Southeast Asia in the future.

Global Village Cambodia is a proponent of effective altruism. Its objective is to help project regions transition from a tumultuous past and an impoverished present to a harmonious future. A central thought is that a student not experiencing ugliness or vice isn’t a sustainable substitute for a student experiencing beauty and virtue.
