Pakistan's Sharif poised to become PM

Nawaz Sharif is poised to become Pakistan's prime minister for a third time and is making better relations with India a priority.

In a symbolic step Sharif said both sides had extended invitations for diplomatic visits by the countries' leaders.

He said mistrust between the nations must be tackled.

"Fears on your side, fears on our side, I think we want to really seriously address this."

Sharif's return to power has raised concern he may cross swords with Pakistan's powerful military, a fear he wants to alleviate.

"So, we have to work together we are facing huge problems in this country and we all have to be on the same page to be able to solve these problems."
