Pakistani politician Imran Khan's suffered head and back injuries in this fall from a forklift truck at an election rally.

He plunged four and a half metres as he was being lifted to the stage in Lahore.

He's in hospital where he's had stitches to head wounds and has suffered a hairline fracture to his back, according to party officials.

They said he was stable, talking and able to recognise people.

Khan's accident happened just four days before national elections.

Dozens of supporters have been holding a vigil to pray for his swift recovery.
