Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova celebrated the Russian launch of her confectionary line Sugarpova in Moscow on Monday at the Lotte Plaza shopping centre. The world No 2-ranked star launched the sweets in six countries last year including the US, Japan and the UK.

The brightly-coloured confectionary include 12 flavours with names such as Flirty, Smitten, Splashy, Chic and Sporty. The sweets come in a variety of shapes from kissing lips, to tennis balls and high-heeled shoes.

Sharapova is best known for her athletic prowess and has won 29 WTA singles tournaments. She has been ranked No 1 in the world on five separate occasions and won all four Grand Slams.

Sharapova was born in Russia before moving the US at age seven, but retains her Russian citizenship. In addition to her career as a tennis player and confectionary entrepreneur, Sharapova has modelled for Land Rover and Canon and has her own clothing collection in collaboration with sportswear giant Nike.

A portion of all sales from Sugarpova goes to charities.
