China launches high-res Earth observation satellite

China launches a satellite to conduct high resolution Earth observation Friday afternoon.

The launch was the 175th in China's Long March series of rockets.

Three microsatellites, developed by Turkey, Argentina, and Ecuador respectively, were also aboard.

The satellite will be able to obtain high-resolution data over vast swathes of land.

China is still at the very beginning stage of researching and applying such technology.

But experts hope that the satellite will play a big role in the research and prediction of weather patterns, including natural disasters.
