Colorado avalanche kills five snowboarders

Five snowboarders have been killed in a backcountry avalanche at Colorado's Loveland Pass.

A sixth member of the group survived Saturday's (April 21) incident.

Local authorities say it's likely the snowboarders triggered the avalanche themselves.

SOUNDBITE: (English) CLEAR CREEK COUNTRY SHERIFF DON KRUEGER SAYING:

"The basic is that there was a group of about six backcountry snowboards that came out today about 2 o'clock, apparently they triggers a slide, at least one of them was able to bail off to the side, he was partially buried but he was able to get himself out and call for help."

Ten people have now died in avalanche-related fatalities during Colorado's current ski season.
