The German parliament’s approval of the rescue package for Cyprus seemed assured. But new funding gaps in the Cypriot budget amounting to billions of euros are causing ever more German politicians to doubt the efficacy of the bailout. In addition, the Alternative for Germany, a new party opposed to the single currency, is trying to capitalize on voters’ frustration with the eurozone.
