White House says it had "nothing to do with" Cuba trip, despite Jay-Z rap
White House spokesman Jay Carney has denied that the White House gave Beyonce and Jay-Z clearance to travel to Cuba, after Jay-Z made that claim in a new song.
SOUNDBITE: White House Spokesman Jay Carney saying (English):
"I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury. Because Treasury offers and gives licenses for travel, as you know, and the White House has nothing to do with it."
Jay- Z had responded to the uproar around the trip by releasing a song called "Open Letter," which address the incident. The lyrics includes lines "Obama said chill, 'You gonna' get me impeached" and "Wanna give me jail time and a fine, fine, let me commit a real crime." Americans are not allowed to travel to Cuba except under certain circumstances.
The U.S. Treasury Department said it approved the couple's trip as an educational exchange.
