Seinfeld Rakes in Billions From Reruns

Seinfeld rakes in billions from the reruns.

The sitcom ‘Seinfeld’ aired its final episode 15 years ago. But that hasn’t stopped the money from continually pouring in.

Since the show ended, it has brought in an astounding $3.1 billion. The sitcom got its start in 1989 and ran for 9 years on the NBC network. In total, 180 episodes were made and continue to run on TV.

Currently, negotiations for a fifth round of syndication have made the total earnings surpass the $3 billion mark. That means the co-creators, both Larry David and star of the show, Jerry Seinfeld have pocketed approximately $400 million each, just from the re-run deals.

Breaking it down, each half an hour episode has brought in $17 million. Amazingly, the beloved sitcom is about 'nothing' and was originally turned down by Fox.

The Simpsons is another monster hit. Although the show is still going strong, it is expected to bring in about $750 million in syndicated revenue once it is cancelled.

The re-run deal allows rights to be sold to cable channels and possibly online distributors which could create a massive windfall for Fox.
