Pope Francis greets religious leaders from around the world

STORY: Delegations representing religions from around the world on Wednesday (March 20) gathered at the Vatican for a meeting with Pope Francis.

The Pope's ecumenical audience was attended by non-Catholic Christians as well as Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist delegations.

Francis, who was officially inaugurated a day earlier on Tuesday (March 19) told his guests he had a "firm intention" to continue his predecessors on the path of ecumenical dialogue.

The Pope also told them the Catholic Church was aware of the importance of promoting friendship and respect between men and women of different religious traditions.

Francis said allowing a one-sided view of the human being was one of the biggest dangers of the times.

"We can do a lot for the good of those who are poorer, weaker and those who suffer, to favor justice, to promote reconciliation and to build peace but above all we need to keep the thirst for The Absolute alive in the world, not allowing the prevalenc
