Egyptian police fired tear gas to disperse protesters in Port Said on Tuesday (March 5), on the third day of violent protests.

Waves of demonstrations have been erupting in the port city since January after the detention of dozens of people in connection with a football riot last year when over 70 died.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of a government building and hurled stones at police, who reacted by firing tear gas and warning shots in the air.

Some 420 people have been wounded since the latest wave of protests started on Sunday (March 3), about 60 from shotgun wounds and live bullets, the head of Port Said's ambulance services, has said.
