A bridge collapses in India's eastern Kolkata city on Sunday (March 03) bringing down a truck that was crossing at the time, and severely injuring three people.

The incident took place in the early hours of the morning when a section of the bridge in the Ultadanga area collapsed as a vehicle was crossing.

An 200 metre section of the bridge crashed into the canal below.

Local people said they rescued the injured who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The bridge, which was constructed about two years ago, is used by thousands of commuters daily.

Authorities say a committee will be constituted to investigate the collapse.
