On Maha Shivarathri, the festivities begin at Cottonpet temple wherein 1008 people carry “paal kodams”(vessels with milk) on their heads and move in a procession towards Sri Angalaparameshwari temple and offer “Abhishekam” to the Goddess. Over 5000 liters of milk would be used for this purpose.
Mudiraju's popular deity is mother Goddess Ankamma. Chola kings of South India also worshipped Ankamma. While the common people were known as Vellalas, the royal clans were known as Cholas and Mutharayars.

Angamma temples were built by Chola and Vijayanagar kings. Ankamma was basically the Goddess of Telugu Mudiraj and the people who worship Angamma in Tamil and Karnataka were mostly the descendants of Telugu warrior community.
