Police re-examine firing of officer wanted for murder

Police scour southern California for a former officer wanted for three murders.

More than 100 police as well as dogs, helicopters and armoured personnel carriers are searching for Christopher Dorner after his burning pickup truck was found near Big Bear Lake, a popular ski resort, Thursday.

A Los Angeles police spokesman said the police chief is re-examining Dorner's 2008 dismissal for allegedly falsely accusing another officer of excessive force.

"He's not opening it because of the accusations or because of the musings of someone who's a multiple murderer now. He's doing it because he wants to ensure that the public knows that the Los Angeles Police Department is fair and transparent."

Dorner declared war on law enforcement and complained of his firing in an online manifesto posted last week.

The 33-year-old is accused of killing the 28-year-old daughter of a retired police captain who represented him in a disciplinary action that led to his firing. He is also wanted for killing the woman's fiancé and an officer.

"We will look under every rock, we will look around every corner, we will search mountain tops for him."

Dorner is believed armed with an assault rifle and other weapons.

Police are protecting more than 50 officers and their families who were threatened in the manifesto as well as increasing security for Sunday's Grammy Awards.
