STORY: With shouts of "no more war", protests broke out in a Senate intelligence committee hearing room during the confirmation hearing for John Brennan Thursday.
Brennan, President Barack Obama's top counterterrorism adviser, was interrupted by protesters from the group Code Pink during his opening testimony to become the next director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
Code Pink protesters erupted with shouts and sign waving several times during the hearing's opening minutes, leading the hearing's Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein to call for a short recess and have police clear the protesters from the room.
Brennan is expected to face tough questioning about the administration's policy of using drone attacks to kill U.S. terrorism suspects during his testimony in his confirmation hearing for CIA director.
Brennan is expected to win confirmation from both the panel and later the full U.S. Senate.
Brennan first surfaced as an Obama CIA nominee in 2008. He withdrew after human rights activists protested against his public statements about the agency's use of what it calls "enhanced interrogation" techniques, including the simulated drowning practice known as waterboarding, which a wide range of authorities regard as torture.
