Iran airs footage it says is from downed U.S. drone

Iran released on Wednesday what it says is decoded footage taken by a US spy drone, which it captured over a year ago.

The video features narration from Iran's aerospace commander saying the images are of a US base inside Afghanistan, and other aerial shots.

"This aircraft (drone) has been flying over countries in the region and has been involved in many operations and it has supported actions in Pakistan…You can see it is landing at Kandahar air base. It is taxiing at the air base and then comes in front of the aircraft hangar. Then you see it taxi again to the front of the runway and it's taking off again."

In December 2011, Iran said it captured the unmanned U.S. drone over eastern Iran, which was reported lost by U.S. forces in neighboring Afghanistan.

Reuters has not confirmed if the drone footage is genuine.

But Iranian authorities have claimed in the past they have decoded much of the data from the downed craft as well as valuable technology.
