The camera features an 18 megapixels APS-C sized CMOS sensor with DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor to capture high resolution images with accurate colours. It has a high sensitivity up to ISO 6400 which can be further extended up to ISO 12800 to shoot clear images under extreme low light condition. The Canon DSLR 550D captures Full HD Video at 1920 x 1080 resolution with variable frame rates. For better quality sound capture, the camera has an external microphone socket that accepts a dedicated mic.
