Liza Minnelli celebrates 40 years of 'Cabaret'
Cabaret, the Oscar winning movie starring Liza Minnelli and Michael York, has hit the big 4-0. The movie is a loose adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, which was itself adaptated from a play which was originally based on the stories of Christopher Isherwood.
To celebrate forty years of fishnet tights and big musical numbers, Liza Minnelli turned out in New York with her co-stars but sadly without director Bob Fosse who died in 1987.
Liza Minnelli: "Just being together again is so much fun, you know. And I think we're all excited. Cause Fosse's work was so brilliant. Well he put the musical numbers back in the cabaret. So it was very realistic."
The film won eight Academy Awards but was pipped to the Best Picture Oscar by The Godfather. According to lead actor Michael York, the classic shows no sign of aging.
Michael York: "We're all here, the film looks better than ever. And it really is a sense of something to celebrate. So I'm thrilled I can be here too."
Cabaret explores the end of the bohemian way of life in Berlin as the Nazis took power in the early 1930s - in case you haven't seen it.
Liza Minnelli: "You have to see it, it's very strange and dark and sexy and sensual. It's a wonderful film."
To commemorate the anniversary, a Blu-Ray of the movie complete with a book of behind the scenes material is being released on February 5th.
