Funeral held for former Cambodian king

Mourners gathered in the Cambodian capital on Friday (February 1) to honour the former King Norodom Sihanouk.

People watched as the gold casket moved from the palace grounds to the crematorium. The coffin will remain there for three days before the king's cremation on 4 February.

Sihanouk, once an absolute ruler who freed Cambodia from colonialism before becoming a tragic pawn through decades of turmoil, died in October last year in a Beijing hospital.

He was 89.
