Using two Greek nautical terms the author of Hebrews anchors his message of paying closer attention to Christ. The first term, "to pay much closer attention," meant to hold the ship's course toward port and to moor the vessel in harbor. The second term, "drift past and slip away," suggest the opposite. The term portrayed a drifting ship, carried by the current past a port of safety, right into a killer storm.
