New Statue of Nelson Mandela Unveiled As He Recovers In The Hospital

South African President Jacob Zuma unveiled a new statue of former president Nelson Mandela on Thursday ( December 13, 2012) who has spent the past six days in the hospital due to a lung infection.
The eight-meter high bronze statue stands in a nature reserve overlooking the city.
Zuma used the unveiling to say that Mandela, who is known locally by his clan name 'Madiba', is recovering well.
"Madiba is recuperating from lung infection at the Pretoria hospital. We wish him speedy recovery and assure him yet again of the love and support of many in the country and abroad," he said.
South Africa's first black president, who came to power in historic all-race elections in 1994, remains a hero to many of its 52 million people.
