Three arrested in Bangladesh over fatal factory fire

Three Bangladeshi garment employees stand in a Dhaka court.

They were arrested on Wednesday for their alleged part in a deadly garment factory fire that killed more than 100 over the weekend.

Police say the three men are accused of negligence, with some victims claiming managers prevented workers from getting out of the multi-storey building when the fire alarm sounded.

Factory owners Tazreen Fashions have not commented on the case or the blaze.

Government officials called for a day of mourning after the worst industrial fire in the country's history.

The tragedy has put Bangladesh's garment industry with its 4,500 factories under the global spotlight, where wages are low and working conditions and safety regulations are poor.
