At least 14 people killed in China restaurant blast

The wreckage of a restaurant in China, where at least 14 people were killed when a blast tore through the building.

The "Happy Sheep" restaurant in Shouyang county was busy with customers on Friday night.

But just before 8pm an explosion was triggered, which then started a fire.

Six people were killed immediately, while another eight died later in hospital.

Forty-seven people were also injured.

Many of those were recovering in hospital with severe burns.

SOUNDBITE: VICTIM ZHANG XIAOGUANG SAYING (Mandarin):

"A ball of fire came towards me, so I hid under the table right away. Then I heard an explosion, and people were running around in chaos. I jumped out of the window beside me from the second floor."

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the blast.
