ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION

Protestors clashed with police in northern Italy on Saturday as Prime Minister Mario Monti arrived to address a convention in the town of Riva del Garda.

Police formed a cordon around the convention area where Monti was addressing a meeting at the "Festival of the Family".

The protestors want to draw attention to the deep resentment of the economic measures Monti's government is implementing.

Last month Monti's government hiked its 2012 deficit target to 2.6 percent of gross domestic product from 1.7 percent, blaming a deeper than expected recession.
