Bradley Cooper and Richard Gere at 16th Annual Hollywood Film Awards

The 16th annual Hollywood Film Awards saw many familiar faces on the red carpet this Monday (October 22).
Bradley Cooper won the Best Actor award for his performance in "Silver Linings Playbook."

"It's wonderful that this movie, for anything to happen to this movie, to get it more out there for the public to hopefully come and see it, is great."
When asked how his character sees the bright side to his misfortunes, Cooper says,

"Family and relationships, that's the silver lining that allows him to break away whatever it is he thinks he needs to do in order to control the happiness in his life."
Also honored at the gala was Dustin Hoffman, who won the Breakthrough Director award for his comedy film "Quartet."
Marion Cotillard got the Best Actress award for her role as an amputee in "Rust and Bone." Amy Adams received Best Supporting Actress for her role in "The Master."
Richard Gere, who most recently starred in indie-drama "Arbitrage," was honored with the Career Achievement award. He talks about his character, a high-powered New York hedge fund mogul who endures self-inflicted calamities.

"If you look at Shakespearean villains, they're not really villains, they're human beings. "If you write any bad guy, but you write him like all of us who have many failings, then you can identify with it at some level. If you play him like a villain, if you write him like a villain, you can sustain that for maybe 20 minutes."
The Hollywood Film Awards honors excellence in film and officially kicks off awards season.
