Ironman Extracurricular Activites: Waterfalls, Volcanoes, Beaches, Lava

www.BikeWearWorld.com and www.uRide.tv went searching for things to do post Ironman Worlds. We visited the volcanoes, which come with the warning on the pamphlet from the state park - VISITOR alert - high amounts of dangerous sulfur dioxide gas may be present in areas, the Akakai Falls - which had some random homeless looking guy collecting cash from every person into his fanny bag as an entrance fee, to local beaches on the east side that were so tropically beautiful it was hard to not stop everywhere to take video and pics, and to the lava on the Kona side with the white sand beaches that were raked perfectly for tourism. What was odd was trying to get to the Observatory on the Mauna Kea Summit at 13,000ft - never got there. Guess we didn't go far enough, but would recommend it. All in all, try the local food. It was amazing! We sampled vanilla beans, sea salt, cocoa, bananas in 4 different species!!!, papaya, hawaiian barbequed chicken from a pit, banana leaf mochi, empenadas, banana egg rolls melt-in-your mouth style and much more! Get out and go look! This is the video guide for triathletes visiting Kona, the Big Island.
