Protesters hold pictures of people kidnapped by Colombia's FARC rebels ahead of peace talks set to begin Monday.

Members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia or FARC will start a dialogue with Colombian government officials in Norway - aimed at ending nearly 50 years of conflict.

This isn't the first time FARC rebels and government officials have attempted talks... the last round failed 10 years ago.

But one former FARC member told Reuters he believes this time, the talks may be successful.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) FORMER MEMBER OF THE REVOLUTIONARY ARMED FORCES OF COLOMBIA (FARC), YEZID ARTETA, SAYING:

"What has been agreed between the Colombian government and the FARC is a realistic agreement. It's an agreement that establishes a route map. It's also an architecture of a peace process. There are some relevant issues in there which make me think that both parties finally have made a decision to go ahead with this. And that's something that has been always demanded by the Colombian society."

The talks are due to take place in an unknown location reportedly in the outskirts of the Norwegian capital Oslo before moving to Cuba.
